Microsoft just dropped a bunch of new features for Windows 11, and gamers, you’re in for a treat! Let’s dive in.
Gaming Copilot: Your New In-Game Buddy
The star of the show is Gaming Copilot, now available in the Game Bar for Windows 11 – but remember, it’s still in beta. This AI assistant lets you ask for help using Voice Mode, so you can keep your hands on the keyboard and mouse while playing. It’ll suggest games you might like, recall your gaming history, and even recognize on-screen bosses to provide tips. Sounds amazing, right? Well, hold your horses. It’s still a bit wonky and slow, so don’t expect perfection just yet.
Network Quality Indicator: Troubleshoot Cloud Gaming Issues
Microsoft’s also rolled out a Network Quality Indicator (NQI) tool for its cloud gaming service. If you’re having laggy issues, this widget in the Game Bar can help you pinpoint the problem – high ping, packet loss, or both. Now you’ll know if it’s your connection or the service causing the trouble.
Improved Game Saves and Smoother Controller Navigation
The Xbox PC app is getting better at handling un-synced game saves across devices, and controller navigation in the Game Bar has been tweaked for smoother movement. Nice!
Other Goodies: Wi-Fi 7, Braille Viewer, and AI Actions
Windows 11 now supports Wi-Fi 7, the latest wireless standard. There’s also a new Braille viewer for Narrator, and AI actions are coming to File Explorer. Plus, the widgets panel now has a discover feed curated by Copilot, and you’ll get suggested widgets for the lock screen.
So, Is Gaming Copilot Ready for the Mainstream?
Microsoft’s betting big on voice and AI in Windows 11, so Gaming Copilot’s arrival isn’t surprising. But even though it’s rolling out with the final version of the OS, it’s still officially in beta. Expect glitches and slow performance, especially on resource-strapped handheld PCs. The idea has potential, though, and it could be a game-changer for Windows 11 gamers down the line.
Stay tuned for more updates, and happy gaming!
