Ingredients
Base
- 1 large bag Doritos (Nacho Cheese flavor works best)
- 1 tbsp oil (optional, for beef)
Seasoned Beef
- 500 g ground beef (or minced chicken/turkey)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade below)
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 60 ml water
Cheesy Sauce Layer
- 200 ml nacho cheese sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- OR mix:
- 1 cup shredded cheddar
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tbsp butter
Toppings (Taco Bell style)
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 large tomato, diced
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup salsa
- 1 jalapeño, sliced (optional)
- ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
- 1 avocado, diced or guacamole (optional)
- Fresh cilantro (optional)
Instructions
1. Cook the beef
Heat a pan over medium heat.
Add onion and cook for 2–3 minutes.
Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
Add ground beef and cook until browned.
Drain excess fat if needed.
Add taco seasoning + water.
Simmer 3–5 minutes until thick and flavorful.
2. Make nacho cheese sauce (if homemade)
In a small pan:
- melt butter
- add milk
- stir in shredded cheese slowly
Heat until smooth and creamy.
3. Build the Doritos tray
On a large baking tray or serving platter:
Layer 1:
Spread a thick layer of Doritos.
Layer 2:
Add hot seasoned beef evenly over chips.
Layer 3:
Drizzle nacho cheese sauce generously.
4. Add toppings (cold layer)
Top with:
- lettuce
- tomatoes
- shredded cheese
- jalapeños
- salsa
- sour cream (drizzled or dolloped)
- guacamole (optional)
5. Optional “Taco Bell melt style”
For extra gooeyness:
- Place tray in oven at 180°C (350°F) for 5–7 minutes
(just until cheese melts slightly, don’t burn chips)
Then add fresh cold toppings after baking.
Serving Style
Serve immediately while:
- chips are still crunchy
- cheese is warm and gooey
- toppings are fresh
Best eaten straight from the tray with forks or shared family-style.
