Lettuce-Wrapped Cheeseburger
Ingredients (4 servings)
Burgers
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 recommended)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
Toppings
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 large head iceberg lettuce
- 1 tomato, sliced
- ½ red onion, sliced
- ½ cup sautéed mushrooms (optional)
- Pickles (optional)
Burger Sauce
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp pickle relish
- ¼ tsp paprika
Instructions
1. Prepare the Lettuce
- Carefully remove 8–12 large outer leaves from the iceberg lettuce.
- Wash and pat dry.
- Refrigerate until needed to keep crisp.
2. Make the Patties
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions.
- Shape into thin patties slightly larger than the lettuce “bun.”
- Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
3. Cook the Burgers
- Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat.
- Cook patties for about 3–4 minutes per side.
- During the last minute, place cheese slices on top and cover briefly to melt.
4. Make the Sauce
Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, and paprika in a small bowl.
5. Assemble
- Place 2–3 lettuce leaves as the bottom bun.
- Add a cheeseburger patty.
- Top with tomato slices, onions, mushrooms, and pickles.
- Drizzle with burger sauce.
- Cover with additional lettuce leaves.
Optional Double Cheeseburger Version
For the thick burger shown in the image:
- Use two patties per burger.
- Add cheese between the patties.
- Increase toppings and sauce to taste.
