Chopped Italian Sandwich

Ingredients (2 sandwiches)

  • 2 hoagie or sub rolls
  • 4 oz salami
  • 4 oz capicola or ham
  • 4 oz mortadella or pepperoni (optional)
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • ¼ cup sliced tomatoes
  • ¼ cup sliced pepperoncini
  • 2 tbsp finely diced red onion

Dressing

  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Fresh cracked black pepper
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the meats and provolone into strips.
  2. On a large cutting board, pile the meats, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and pepperoncini together.
  3. Drizzle the dressing over the pile.
  4. Use a large chef’s knife to chop everything together until finely mixed (about 1–2 minutes).
  5. Toast the rolls if desired.
  6. Fill each roll with the chopped mixture and serve immediately.

Optional add-ins

  • Banana peppers
  • Shredded Parmesan
  • Chopped pickles
  • Olive oil
  • Hot cherry peppers

The result is a crunchy, tangy, savory sandwich where every bite has a balanced mix of meat, cheese, vegetables, and dressing.
