Air fryer crispy fried onions

Air fryer crispy fried onions

Ingredients

  • 1 large yellow or sweet onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp oil (olive, avocado, or vegetable)
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour (or cornstarch for extra crispiness)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: ½ tsp paprika, garlic powder, or onion powder

Instructions

  1. Slice the onion into thin rings or half-moons.
  2. Separate the slices and toss with the oil.
  3. Sprinkle on the flour and seasonings, tossing until evenly coated.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
  5. Arrange the onions in a single layer in the basket (cook in batches if needed).
  6. Air fry for 10–15 minutes, shaking the basket every 3–4 minutes. Watch closely during the last few minutes—they can go from golden to burnt quickly.
  7. For extra crispiness, cook an additional 2–3 minutes at 350°F (175°C) if needed.

Tips

  • Don’t overcrowd the basket—airflow is key.
  • Thin slices crisp better than thick ones.
  • Let the onions cool for 5 minutes after cooking; they’ll become even crispier.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and re-crisp in the air fryer for 2–3 minutes.
