“AMA Dives into AI Regulation Frenzy, Launches New Digital Health Center!

The American Medical Association (AMA) has thrown its hat into the ring of the heated debate surrounding AI regulation in healthcare. On Monday, they unveiled their new Center for Digital Health and AI, aiming to shape how cutting-edge tech is used and governed in the medical field.

This is one of the first big moves from CEO John Whyte, who took over the reins of the physician advocacy group earlier this year, following a seven-year stint as the chief medical officer of WebMD. Whyte told STAT that he’s planning to invest millions into this new center and is currently on the hunt for a senior vice president to lead the charge.

At the heart of the AMA’s stance on AI is the belief that, rather than replacing doctors, these tools should be used to “augment” their work. They’re not alone in this perspective, but with this new center, they’re making sure their voice is heard loud and clear in the ongoing conversation.

Stay tuned to STAT+ for the full scoop!
