🍲 Air Fryer Old-Fashioned Goulash (Hearty, Cheesy & Comforting)

Air fryer goulash is a rich, old-fashioned comfort dish made with ground beef, tomatoes, and macaroni, finished with a cozy, cheesy sauce. It’s warm, filling, and full of savory flavor—just like a traditional baked goulash, but made easier using the air fryer.

The air fryer helps brown the beef and deepen the flavor before everything simmers together into a thick, saucy pasta bake. The result is a one-pot style meal that’s cheesy, hearty, and perfect for family dinners.

🧾 Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef (minced beef)
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup elbow macaroni (uncooked)
  • 1 can (400g) diced tomatoes or tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Brown the beef in air fryer
Place ground beef, onion, and garlic into an air fryer-safe baking dish. Add olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika, and Italian seasoning.
Air fry at 180°C (350°F) for 10–12 minutes, stirring halfway until beef is browned.
  2. Add tomato base
Mix in tomato paste and diced tomatoes. Stir well to combine.
  3. Add pasta & liquid
Add uncooked macaroni and beef broth. Stir so pasta is mostly covered.
  4. Cook until tender
Cover with foil and air fry at 170°C (340°F) for 18–25 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Add extra broth if needed.
  5. Make it cheesy
Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.
  6. Finish & serve
Top with more cheese if desired and let it rest for 2–3 minutes before serving hot.
