Ingredients
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1½ cups (150 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240 ml) milk
- ¼ cup (60 ml) melted butter or vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons chopped chives or green onions (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the oven: Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Add cheese: Stir in shredded cheddar and herbs if using.
- Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and melted butter/oil.
- Combine: Pour wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Bake: Transfer batter to the loaf pan and bake for 45–55 minutes, until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool: Let rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing.
