Ingredients (4 servings)
- 4 cups day-old bread, cubed (French bread, brioche, challah, or sandwich bread)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk (whole milk works best)
- ¼ cup heavy cream (optional, for extra richness)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- ¼ cup raisins or chocolate chips (optional)
- 1 tbsp melted butter
Instructions
- Grease a 6-inch cake pan or oven-safe dish that fits your air fryer.
- Place the bread cubes in the dish. Add raisins or chocolate chips if using.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and melted butter.
- Pour the custard evenly over the bread. Press the bread down gently so it absorbs the liquid.
- Let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
- Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 18–22 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden. If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil for the last 5–10 minutes.
- Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Serving ideas
- Dust with powdered sugar.
- Drizzle with warm caramel sauce or maple syrup.
- Top with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
- Fresh berries add a nice contrast.
Tips
- Slightly stale bread absorbs the custard best.
- Brioche or challah makes an especially rich pudding.
- For a crispier top, air fry for an extra 1–2 minutes at 350°F (175°C).
Enjoy warm for the best texture!
