Ingredients
Burger base
- 1Β½ lb (680 g) ground beef β 80/20 recommended
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- 1 tsp salt
- Β½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Mushrooms
- 2 cups sliced mushrooms
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Β½ tsp salt
- ΒΌ tsp black pepper
Cheese & toppings
- 6 slices Swiss cheese, or 1Β½ cups shredded
- Lettuce, optional
- Pickles, optional
- Tomato slices, optional
- Sugar-free burger sauce or mayonnaise, optional
Directions
- Cook the beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 6β8 minutes, breaking it apart as it browns.
- Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Continue cooking until browned and slightly crispy.
- Cook the mushrooms: Push the beef to one side of the skillet or temporarily remove it. Add butter and the sliced mushrooms.
- Cook mushrooms for 5β6 minutes, until golden and softened. Add garlic, salt, and pepper; cook for another 30 seconds.
- Combine: Mix the mushrooms and beef together in the skillet.
- Add cheese: Reduce heat to low and arrange the Swiss cheese over the beef mixture. Cover for 2β3 minutes, until the cheese melts.
- Assemble: Divide the mixture among 4 bowls and add lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, or burger sauce as desired.
- Serve warm.
