Ingredients

Burger base

  • 1Β½ lb (680 g) ground beef β€” 80/20 recommended
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Β½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Mushrooms

  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Β½ tsp salt
  • ΒΌ tsp black pepper

Cheese & toppings

  • 6 slices Swiss cheese, or 1Β½ cups shredded
  • Lettuce, optional
  • Pickles, optional
  • Tomato slices, optional
  • Sugar-free burger sauce or mayonnaise, optional

Directions

  1. Cook the beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking it apart as it browns.
  2. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Continue cooking until browned and slightly crispy.
  3. Cook the mushrooms: Push the beef to one side of the skillet or temporarily remove it. Add butter and the sliced mushrooms.
  4. Cook mushrooms for 5–6 minutes, until golden and softened. Add garlic, salt, and pepper; cook for another 30 seconds.
  5. Combine: Mix the mushrooms and beef together in the skillet.
  6. Add cheese: Reduce heat to low and arrange the Swiss cheese over the beef mixture. Cover for 2–3 minutes, until the cheese melts.
  7. Assemble: Divide the mixture among 4 bowls and add lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, or burger sauce as desired.
  8. Serve warm.
