Air Fryer’s New 3-Ingredient Potato Chips

Air Fryer’s New 3-Ingredient Potato Chips

Few snacks are as universally loved as potato chips, and making them in an air fryer is one of the easiest ways to enjoy a fresh, crispy batch at home. With just three simple ingredients, these homemade chips deliver all the crunch and flavor you crave while using far less oil than traditional deep-fried versions. They’re perfect for snacking, serving alongside sandwiches, or enjoying during movie night.

The secret to extra-crispy chips is slicing the potatoes very thinly and soaking them briefly in cold water. This removes excess starch, helping the chips crisp up beautifully in the air fryer. A quick pat dry before cooking ensures the best texture and even browning.

This recipe keeps things simple with potatoes, oil, and salt, but it’s also a great base for experimenting with flavors. Once cooked, you can sprinkle the chips with garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, ranch seasoning, or your favorite spice blend for a customized snack.

Air fryers work by circulating hot air around the food, creating a crunchy exterior with minimal oil. The result is a lighter chip that’s still satisfyingly crisp. Because homemade chips contain no unnecessary additives or preservatives, you control exactly what goes into every batch.

Nutritionally, these chips provide carbohydrates for energy and contain less fat than many store-bought fried chips. They’re best enjoyed fresh from the air fryer while they’re still warm and at their crispiest.

Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

  • 2 medium potatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly.
  2. Using a mandoline or sharp knife, slice the potatoes as thinly as possible.
  3. Place the slices in a bowl of cold water and soak for 15–20 minutes.
  4. Drain and pat the potato slices completely dry with paper towels.
  5. Toss the slices with olive oil and salt until evenly coated.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for 3 minutes.
  7. Arrange the potato slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary.
  8. Air fry for 10–15 minutes, shaking the basket every 4–5 minutes.
  9. Remove chips as they become golden and crisp, since thinner slices may cook faster.
  10. Allow the chips to cool for 2–3 minutes; they will become even crispier.
  11. Serve immediately.
