Hold onto your remotes, folks! Apple TV+ is pulling a disappearing act, and we’re left wondering why. In a move that’s as confusing as trying to find something to watch on a Friday night, Apple TV+ is dropping the ‘+’ and becoming just… Apple TV. Yep, you heard it right.
Apple made the announcement in a press release, all casual-like, while talking about F1, one of the new movies joining the streamer in December. They said, “Apple TV+ is now simply Apple TV, with a vibrant new identity.” So, no more plus sign, just a fresh coat of paint.
But here’s the thing, Apple already has other products called Apple TV – the TV app, the streaming service (well, until now), and the physical Apple TV 4K device. Now they all share the same name. It’s like having three kids all named ‘Alex,’ and trying to keep track of who’s who.
No other changes to the service have been announced, but word on the street is that Apple might follow Netflix and others in offering an ad-based tier. So, maybe this rebrand is just the first step in a bigger plan. But for now, it’s just plain confusing.
We’re already overwhelmed with streaming options – Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, and now Apple TV. It’s like trying to choose a restaurant when you’re hungry, but there are just too many options. Keeping things simple is key, right? That’s why I was frustrated when HBO Max dropped the ‘HBO’ from its name. Now Apple TV+ is doing the same thing.
Apple TV+ has some great shows like Severance and The Morning Show, so why mess with a good thing? Maybe they’ve got something up their sleeve, but for now, this name change just feels like a step backward.
Let’s hope they make things clearer soon. Until then, we’ll just have to play a game of ‘Which Apple TV is which?’ every time we want to watch something.
