Prep Time: 15 mins | Bake Time: 45-55 mins | Yield: 8-10 slices

Ingredients

For the Chocolate Loaf:

  • 1 ½ cups (180g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil (or melted unsalted butter)
  • ¾ cup (180ml) whole milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)

For the Chocolate Fudge Glaze:

  • ½ cup (90g) dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3 tbsp heavy cream (or 2 tbsp butter + 1 tbsp milk)
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar (optional, for added shine and sweetness)

Instructions

1. Prep the Oven & Pan

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Lightly grease an 8×4-inch or 9×5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

2. Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Combine the Wet Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, oil (or melted butter), milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

4. Mix the Batter

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. Stir gently with a spatula just until combined—be careful not to overmix!
  • Fold in the ½ cup of chocolate chips.

5. Bake

  • Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan and smooth out the top.
  • Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs.
  • Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

6. Make the Glaze & Decorate

  • Combine the chocolate chips and heavy cream in a small microwave-safe bowl.
  • Microwave in 15-to-20-second bursts, stirring between each burst, until completely melted and glossy. (Whisk in the powdered sugar if using).
  • Pour the smooth glaze over the cooled loaf and sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top before the glaze sets.

Baker’s Tip: For the melty chocolate finish seen in the image, warm individual slices in the microwave for 8–10 seconds right before serving!
