French Onion Chicken Rice Casserole (Air Fryer Version)

French Onion Chicken Rice Casserole (Air Fryer Version)

French Onion Chicken Rice Casserole made in the air fryer is a cozy, savory, one-pan-style meal that blends tender chicken, caramelized onion flavor, creamy sauce, and soft rice into a rich baked dish. Inspired by classic French onion soup, it delivers deep umami notes with melted cheese and a golden top layer, all achieved faster using the air fryer instead of a conventional oven.

The key flavor base comes from onions cooked until sweet and deeply golden, combined with chicken and a creamy sauce that coats every grain of rice. The air fryer helps create a lightly crisp, cheesy crust on top while keeping the inside soft and creamy. The contrast between the gooey interior and the browned cheese topping is what makes this casserole especially comforting.

This dish is also practical for weeknight cooking because it uses simple ingredients and minimal prep. You can use leftover rice or pre-cooked chicken to cut down cooking time even further. The air fryer handles the finishing stage, giving you a baked casserole texture without long oven times.

It’s a filling, family-friendly meal that works well on its own or with a simple side salad. The combination of chicken, rice, and French onion flavor makes it both hearty and satisfying, perfect for when you want something warm and rich without complicated steps.
