Keto Cheese Buns

Keto Cheese Buns

Cheese Bun are soft, savory, low-carb bread-style rolls made with cheese, almond flour, and eggs instead of traditional wheat flour. These keto-friendly buns are fluffy on the inside with a slightly crisp, golden exterior and a rich cheesy flavor in every bite. They work perfectly as burger buns, sandwich rolls, or a side for soups and salads.

The key to good keto cheese buns is balancing moisture and structure. Cream cheese and shredded mozzarella create a stretchy, bread-like texture, while almond flour and baking powder give the buns enough stability to rise and hold their shape. When baked or air fried, they puff up nicely and develop a satisfying golden crust without needing yeast or wheat flour.

These buns are incredibly versatile and can be customized in many ways. You can add garlic, herbs, chili flakes, or even extra cheddar for a stronger cheese flavor. They also pair well with butter, sugar-free jams, or savory fillings like eggs, chicken, or beef burgers, making them a great low-carb bread substitute.

Keto Cheese Buns are ideal for anyone following a low-carb or ketogenic lifestyle who still wants soft, bread-like comfort food. They are quick to prepare, require simple ingredients, and store well for meal prep. Fresh out of the oven, they’re warm, cheesy, and satisfying without the carb crash of traditional bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
  • Optional: sesame seeds or herbs for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven or air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt mozzarella and cream cheese together in 30-second intervals until smooth and stretchy. Stir well.
  3. Add almond flour, eggs, baking powder, salt, and optional seasonings to the melted cheese mixture.
  4. Mix until a sticky dough forms. Let it cool slightly so it’s easier to handle.
  5. Divide dough into 6–8 equal portions and shape into buns.
  6. Place buns on parchment paper in the air fryer basket or baking tray.
  7. Bake or air fry for 10–14 minutes, until golden and firm.
  8. Brush with melted butter immediately after cooking.

  • Wet hands slightly when shaping dough to prevent sticking.
  • Don’t overbake or they can become dry.
