Hibiscus Tea with Bay Leaves and Cinnamon

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (1 liter) water
  • ¼ cup dried hibiscus flowers
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2–3 bay leaves
  • 1–2 tablespoons honey, sugar, or sweetener (optional)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon or lime slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Add the hibiscus flowers, cinnamon sticks, and bay leaves.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and let steep for another 10 minutes.
  5. Strain out the hibiscus, cinnamon, and bay leaves.
  6. Sweeten to taste if desired.
  7. Allow the tea to cool completely.
  8. Pour over ice and serve.

Optional Flavor Variations

  • Add a few slices of fresh ginger while simmering.
  • Add orange peel for a citrus note.
  • Mix with sparkling water after chilling for a refreshing spritzer.
