Serves: 4
Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 12–15 minutes

Ingredients

Hash Browns

  • 4 cups frozen shredded hash browns, thawed (or freshly grated potatoes, squeezed dry)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour or cornstarch
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tbsp oil

Filling

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup cooked bacon, diced (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the hash browns, egg, flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and oil.
  3. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions.
  4. Flatten one portion into a thin patty. Place about 2 tablespoons of the cheese filling in the center.
  5. Cover with another thin patty (or fold the same patty over the filling) and press the edges firmly to seal.
  6. Lightly spray both sides with cooking oil.
  7. Arrange the stuffed hash browns in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  8. Air fry for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until both sides are golden brown and crispy.
  9. Let them rest for 2–3 minutes before serving, as the filling will be very hot.

Optional Fillings

  • Cream cheese and chopped jalapeños
  • Ham and Swiss cheese
  • Sautéed mushrooms and mozzarella
  • Spinach and feta
  • Seasoned cooked breakfast sausage and cheddar

Serving Suggestions

Serve with:

  • Sour cream
  • Ketchup
  • Ranch dressing
  • Hot sauce
  • Chopped chives or green onions

Tip: If using freshly grated potatoes, rinse them in cold water, then squeeze out as much moisture as possible with a clean kitchen towel. This helps the hash browns become crisp in the air fryer.
