Serves: 4
Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 12–15 minutes
Ingredients
Hash Browns
- 4 cups frozen shredded hash browns, thawed (or freshly grated potatoes, squeezed dry)
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour or cornstarch
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
- 1 tbsp oil
Filling
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup cooked bacon, diced (optional)
- 2 tbsp chopped green onions
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the hash browns, egg, flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and oil.
- Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions.
- Flatten one portion into a thin patty. Place about 2 tablespoons of the cheese filling in the center.
- Cover with another thin patty (or fold the same patty over the filling) and press the edges firmly to seal.
- Lightly spray both sides with cooking oil.
- Arrange the stuffed hash browns in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Air fry for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until both sides are golden brown and crispy.
- Let them rest for 2–3 minutes before serving, as the filling will be very hot.
Optional Fillings
- Cream cheese and chopped jalapeños
- Ham and Swiss cheese
- Sautéed mushrooms and mozzarella
- Spinach and feta
- Seasoned cooked breakfast sausage and cheddar
Serving Suggestions
Serve with:
- Sour cream
- Ketchup
- Ranch dressing
- Hot sauce
- Chopped chives or green onions
Tip: If using freshly grated potatoes, rinse them in cold water, then squeeze out as much moisture as possible with a clean kitchen towel. This helps the hash browns become crisp in the air fryer.
