Ingredients
- 6 slices white bread, cut into small cubes
- ½ cup dried currants (or raisins)
- 2 cups milk
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for topping, optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Bread Mixture
- Lightly grease an air fryer-safe baking dish that fits your basket.
- Add the bread cubes and currants to the dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread.
- Press the bread gently into the liquid so it absorbs evenly.
- Let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
2. Air Fry the Bread Pudding
- Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for 3–5 minutes.
- Sprinkle brown sugar on top for a caramelized crust if desired.
- Cover the baking dish loosely with foil to prevent the top from browning too quickly.
- Place the dish in the air fryer basket.
- Air fry for 25–30 minutes.
- Remove the foil during the last 5–8 minutes to allow the top to become golden.
3. Check and Serve
- The pudding is ready when the center is set and a knife inserted comes out mostly clean.
- Let it cool for 5–10 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with cream, custard sauce, caramel sauce, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
