French Onion Chicken Rice Casserole

Creamy, cheesy, and loaded with French onion flavor — a cozy dinner winner made in your air fryer!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup crispy fried onions (plus extra for topping)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • Fresh parsley (optional)

Equipment

  • Air fryer-safe baking dish (7–8 inch round or similar)
  • Aluminum foil

Instructions

  1. Preheat Air Fryer
    • Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3–5 minutes.
  2. Make the Casserole Mixture
    • In a large bowl, combine:
      • Cooked rice
      • Chicken
      • Cream of chicken soup
      • Sour cream
      • French onion soup mix
      • Chicken broth
      • Garlic powder
      • Black pepper
      • Paprika (if using)
      • ½ cup crispy fried onions
    • Stir until well combined.
  3. Assemble
    • Spray the air fryer-safe baking dish with cooking spray.
    • Spread the mixture evenly into the dish.
    • Top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  4. Air Fry
    • Cover loosely with foil.
    • Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes.
    • Remove foil and continue cooking for 5–8 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden.
  5. Finish
    • Sprinkle extra crispy fried onions on top.
    • Air fry for an additional 2 minutes until the topping is crunchy.
    • Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
