Low-Carb Air Fryer Crispy Fried Onions
Ingredients
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp almond flour
- 1 tbsp coconut flour
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil spray
Instructions
- Slice the onion into very thin rings or strips.
- In a bowl, whisk the egg.
- In another bowl, mix almond flour, coconut flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Dip the onion slices into the egg.
- Take them out and coat them with the flour mixture. Shake off extra coating.
- Preheat the air fryer to 180°C / 350°F for 3 minutes.
- Lightly spray the air-fryer basket with oil.
- Place the onions in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket.
- Lightly spray the onions with oil.
- Air fry at 180°C / 350°F for 8–12 minutes.
- Shake the basket every 3–4 minutes so they cook evenly.
- Remove when they are golden brown and crispy.
- Let them cool for 2–3 minutes. They will become even crispier as they cool.
Tips
- Slice the onions very thin for extra crispiness.
- Cook in batches if needed.
- Keep a close eye on them near the end because onions can burn quickly.
- For a stronger flavor, add a pinch of chili powder or dried herbs.
Low-Carb Note
Using almond flour and coconut flour instead of regular flour keeps these much lower in carbs. The exact carbs depend on the size of the onion and how much coating sticks to it.
