Bread in a Bag Recipe!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 large egg (optional, for a richer bread)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (optional, for brushing)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough in the Bag

  1. Add flour, yeast, sugar, and salt into a large food-safe zip-top bag.
  2. Seal the bag and shake well to combine the dry ingredients.
  3. Add warm water and olive oil to the bag.
  4. Seal the bag tightly, removing excess air.
  5. Squish and knead the bag with your hands for 5–7 minutes until a soft dough forms.

2. First Rise

  1. Remove the dough from the bag and place it on a lightly floured surface.
  2. Shape it into a ball and place it in a greased bowl.
  3. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 45–60 minutes, or until doubled in size.

3. Shape the Bread

  1. Punch down the dough and shape it into a small loaf that fits your air fryer basket.
  2. Place the dough into a greased air fryer-safe loaf pan or small baking pan.
  3. Cover and let it rise again for 20–30 minutes.

4. Air Fry the Bread

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for 3–5 minutes.
  2. Brush the top of the dough with milk or melted butter for a golden crust.
  3. Place the pan in the air fryer basket.
  4. Air fry for 25–35 minutes, until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  5. Check that the internal temperature reaches about 190°F (88°C) for fully baked bread.

5. Cool and Serve

  1. Remove the bread from the pan.
  2. Let it cool on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
  3. Serve with butter, jam, or your favorite spread.

Cooking Time

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • First Rise: 45–60 minutes
  • Second Rise: 20–30 minutes
  • Air Fry Time: 25–35 minutes
  • Total Time: About 2 hours

Servings

1 small loaf (about 8–10 slices)

Air Fryer Tips

  • Avoid making the loaf too large; air fryers need space for hot air circulation.
  • If the top browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil during the last 10 minutes.
  • For a softer crust, brush the warm bread with butter immediately after baking.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer size and wattage
