🥬 Cabbage and Ground Beef Skillet
Ingredients
- 1 small head cabbage, chopped
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 can (15 oz / 425 g) diced tomatoes
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper, chopped (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- ½ cup beef broth or water
Instructions
- Brown the beef:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed. - Add onion and garlic:
Add chopped onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. - Add the cabbage:
Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. It may look like a lot at first, but it will shrink as it cooks. - Add tomatoes and seasoning:
Stir in diced tomatoes, beef broth, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. - Simmer:
Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the flavors have combined. - Adjust and serve:
Taste and adjust the salt and pepper. If you prefer a thicker mixture, remove the lid and cook for another 3–5 minutes.
🍽️ Serving
Serve hot on its own, or over white rice, brown rice, or mashed potatoes. A little shredded cheese on top is also delicious.
